Anticipation Builds for the Ariens Art on Wheels Vintage Weekend Featuring VSCDA September 13-15
ELKHART LAKE, Wis., – September 5, 2024 – As summer winds down, the excitement at Road America is just heating up. From September 13-15, the Ariens Art on Wheels Vintage Weekend, in collaboration with the Vintage Sports Car Driver Association (VSCDA), returns to America’s National Park of Speed, bringing a captivating celebration of automotive history. This event is not just a race; it’s a three-day journey through time, where the past meets the present on one of the most iconic tracks in the world.
With over 300 meticulously restored vintage and historic race cars spread across ten racing classes, attendees will be treated to a visual and auditory feast. The event showcases the evolution of motorsport, from the elegant lines of classic sports cars to the thunderous roars of muscle machines. Each car tells a story, and every lap is a tribute to the rich legacy of racing.
One of the most enchanting aspects of the weekend is the open-access paddock, where fans can immerse themselves in the world of vintage racing. This is not just an opportunity to see these magnificent machines up close—it’s a chance to connect with the passion and dedication that goes into maintaining and racing them. Whether you’re a seasoned enthusiast or a curious newcomer, the paddock offers a rare glimpse into the artistry and craftsmanship that define vintage motorsport.
VSCDA’s commitment to maximizing track time ensures a packed schedule of sprint and endurance races throughout the weekend. Friday night’s Closed Wheel Endurance Series Race, supporting Disabled American Veterans, is a highlight that attendees won’t want to miss. Saturday promises even more excitement with the inaugural Carl Haas Cup Race, featuring fast Sports Racing and Formula Cars. Particular Saturday and Sunday races will feature All Healeys, which is a must-see.
Sunday’s feature races will keep the adrenaline pumping, with entries based on lap times included in registration. The Kimberly and Sheldon Cup races, split at the 3-minute lap time, and the Elkhart Lake Cup, reserved exclusively for open-wheel cars, are set to deliver thrilling competition. Additionally, there are Feature Races for Formula B, Formula Ford, and the special VSCDA Founders Race, making for a full day of non-stop racing action.
On-track touring sessions will be available on Saturday and Sunday for those eager to experience the track firsthand. For a fee (plus event admission), street-legal sedans and sports cars can take to the course each day (no trucks, SUVs, vans, motorcycles, or racecars). Advance registration is recommended, but you can also purchase a touring pass on-site.
The annual Road Course Re-Enactment on Saturday is a police-escorted tour of the original Elkhart Lake 1950-1952 public road race course that leaves Road America in the early afternoon. Race cars, street cars, and motorcycles are invited to participate. VSCDA has been doing this re-enactment for 30 years and often attracts 100+ vehicles. You can register your vehicle to participate in advance (plus event admission) or watch for free from many vantage points in Elkhart Lake.
In honor of America’s heroes, Road America is proud to offer FREE admission all weekend to active—and reserve-duty military members and veterans with ID.
Throughout the weekend, fans will notice many improvements around the grounds, including scenic viewing trails inside and outside turns 9 and 10, the newly named ‘The Bluffs’ at Turn 11, and a new pathway to Turn 12, known as ‘Canada Corner.’ Additional amenities include a new restroom facility with showers, an RV waste transfer station at Turn 1, fresh artistic carvings, and upgrades to ‘The Mission Foods 2Fast2Tasty Beach’ near Turn 11.
Bring the entire family to the Ariens Art on Wheels Vintage Weekend for non-stop racing excitement. Weekend campsites are also available, making the races fun and affordable. Ticket prices vary by day. Kids 16 and under get free general admission with a paying adult at the gate. Racing runs rain or shine.
